>> pam: now to a developing story - a flu outbreak across the u-s. twenty children have died so far this flu season. here in california -- four adults are dead. and the sickness could just be getting started here. at last check, the flu is widespread in 47-states. that does not include california. tonight, kron4 has team coverage on the flu. terisa estacio is on the peninsula, where kaiser permanente is awaiting thousands more vacination shots. but first, lets to justine waldman -- she has more on how the outbreak is being dealt with in the east bay. >> the frigde is full of flu vaccines at contra costa health services. from the nasal spray to the shot for kids and the regular vial.no shortage here. the supply is meeting the demand. >> we have not had to turn people away and we have plenty of vaccine available. >> reporter: as the immunization coordinator. paul leung tells me. so far this flu season the public health clinics have given out about 15-thousand flu shots. last year's total: 20- thousand. even with flu season. picking up.he is not anticipating any problems. >> for those people who have not had one. they can

certainly come to one of our clinics and get it >> reporter: doctors say it is too soon to tell just how bad flu season will be. it ends in march, in martinez justine waldman kron 4 news. >> we continue our team coverage of the flu outbreak. last week, kaiser permanente hospitals had a shortage of vaccines at some of their facilities in northern california. but as kron four's terisa estacio reports, help is now on the way for those people in need of a shot. >> reporter: at some kaiser permanente facilities in northern california there simply was not enough vaccines to meet demand. but that was last week. now, this week. the spot shortage is over. and help is on the way. this is doctor smith - an infectious disease expert for kaiser. >> we moved supplies around. to deal with issue. plus, the doctor says a large supply is on it's way. >> thousand on the way. >> reporter: and that is a very good thing. especially for this reason. take a look at this graph on the

sickness. health officials say this year's flu shot is about 64% effective. >> breaking news in the lance armstrong doping saga. armstrong has confessed that he used performance enhancing drugs during his cycling career. a source with knowledge of the situation says the admition came during the taping of an interview with oprah winfrey. armstrong was apparently emotional at times while confessing. he's been accused of using performance enhancing drugs while winning a record 7 tour de france titles. before the interview, armstrong apologized to staff at his livestrong cancer fighting foundation. armstrong was stripped of all seven tour titles last year in the wake of a voluminous u.s. anti-doping agency report the interview will air thursday on oprah winfrey's network. we'll stay on top of this developing story. >> a developing story tonight. the newest search for victims of the speed freak killers. is now in its second week.

this duo carried out a drug- fueled killing spree in the 1980's and 90's. this year, the f.b.i. has started the digging for victim remains in the case. joining us now, kron4's j-r stone. jr, last year. the remains of three people were found in a well in linden. now - a new search in a different spot. but so far. no human remains have been found. >> they are still preparing. the scene. i just spoke with the fbi in 15 minutes ago. however, more setbacks. experts are having difficulty identifying the bottom of the well. they thought that the natural bottom was 200 ft.. now, it is difficult to say. keep in mind that they thought that it was at 50 ft. but that is not the case. they have put

down the cameras and they do not believe that this is the absolute bottom. they are going to continue to try to excavate materials from this site. again, the site preparations. we're not talking about going down 50 ft.. 200 ft. that has been with the big delay. jerry r. stone, kron 4 news. >> pam: the san francisco police department releases the sketch of a man who attacked a woman in the mission dictrict. this is a sketch of the suspect who investigators say, tried to sexually assault a 31-year old woman back on january sixth. just before three in the morning, the woman was walking down 23rd street towards church, when a man lunged at her-- grabbing her head and throwing her to the ground. he is described as an asian

or hispanic male, 25 years of age, with a buzz haircut and slight beard growth. >> pam: a violent weekend in oakland. 15 people shot -- four of those killed. today, oakland city officials promising action. more on that part of the story ahead. but first, grant lodes is standing by with more on the------------------------ we'll break it down and map out all the shootings starting with friday. starting on firday.four shootings.all of them fatal.all over the city. three fo the four were friday afternoon. the other was 8:15 friday night. two shootings saturday.nobody died. but there were three people shot at this one location saturday afternoon.near seminary avenue and harmon street. and then three more shootings yesterday - sunday. none fatal but a five people were shot at this one location - seminary and foothill boulevard. less than a half mile from saturday's shooting in which 3 people were hit.

>> pam: six people have been murdered already this year in oakland. earlier today, oakland police chief howard jordan held a press conference to explain how he plans to deal with this recent rise in shootings >> i have been working with my staff over the weekend with a redeployment plan to temporarily assigned officers to the streets. we've received assistance from the c h p, a highway patrol, the sheriff's office and we tend to have an agreement ironed out that will add 15 additional officers to the streets. >> pam: chief jordan says two rival groups are connected to some of these recent shootings, and says they are also responsible for the majority of the violence in the city >> catherine: the 16-year- old california boy accused of shooting a classmate has now been charged as an adult. this is bryan oliver. he's been charged with attempted murder and other counts - in the thursday

just before three in the morning, the woman was walking down 23rd street towards church, when a man lunged at her-- grabbing her head and throwing her to the ground. he is described as an asian or hispanic male, 25 years of age, with a buzz haircut and slight beard growth. >> pam: f-b-i agents are now in week two of a search for human remains associated with the speed freak killers. herzog are the serial kiling duo who went on a drug induced killing rampage in the 80's and 90's. kron 4's j.r. stone is following the story and joins us with more on the search for victim remains. >> we are seven days into this search and the fbi is still doing prep work. i just got off the phone with some of the insiders in this case and they tell me that they are hoping to actually start searching for bones next week. keep in mind there have been a number of setbacks here. this is video from last week showing this search and the prep work that is still going on. last week the fbi announced that

the well has a natural depth of 200 feet but they can't find the current bottom of this well so that means more prep work before they start sifting. prep work was originally going to take a couple days. that though has changed because the bottom of this well could be four times what the fbi originally thought it was. death row inmate wesley shermantine has said for sometime that victims can be found inside this abandoned well. he claims they are victims of his late partner in crime loren herzog. crews have put a camera down into this well but so far it has not helped them. but again, the hope here is to start hand sifting for remains next monday. j.r. stone kron 4 news. >> pam: the flu outbreak now being called an epidemic in the u-s. the centers for disease control and prevention says 47 states are now reporting widespread flu activity. officials say part of the severity of a flu season depends on what strain circulates. part depends on how many get vaccinated. we have had

>> as the nation's flu epidemic worsens -- many sick workers don't plan on staying at home and getting better. all because they can't afford to. alison kosik has more on just how many americans don't have paid sick days. you've probably already gotten the office memo - stay home from work if you feel sick. but as many as one in three americans can't take their bosses up on that offer - /ppbecause they don't have paid sick days./ppthe bureau of labor statistics says around 80% of full time workers get paid sick days while only 25% of part time workers do. /ppthat means almost 41 million americans can't afford to stay home when they're sick-- which puts everyone else at risk. /ppin fact, the american journal of public health says an additional five million people were infected with flu symptoms in 2009. mainly because they caught it from a co-worker./ppadd it all up, and the seasonal flu can get quite costly. /ppthe center for disease control estimates a typical flu season costs businesses about 9 to 10 billion dollars in direct costs. things like worker hospitalizations, outpatient and emergency visits, medication./ppand that doesn't even count indirect costs like lost productivity and sales./pp so while providing sick days may seem too expensive for some employers, it can actually be more costly to withhold them. an analyst with the center for american progress says the u.s. is the only developed country without a law ensuring workers have the right to have paid sick days. i'm alison kosik in new york gary radnich is next
